Magic Bone Broth

Bone broth has recently gained increased popularity, and now regularly displayed on market shelves. While convenient, I find this to be quite an expensive way to consume bone broth, especially given how easy it is to make. Bone broth is extremely nutritious, full of collagen, proteins, and vital nutrients and minerals. It has been shown to be a powerful agent in digestive health, joint health, and immunity. It is recommended to drink 1 cup a day, which I prefer to drink in the morning. The beauty of bone broth is that you can truly use almost any bone and vegetable combination you might have on hand. I personally like to make a huge pot of it on the weekend and drink it throughout the week.

Magic Bone Broth Recipe

Ingredients:

  • bones (beef bones, chicken carcass, chicken feet, pork bones, etc.*organic, grass-fed preferred)
  • water
  • *optional* vegetables (onion, carrots, celery, garlic,  *organic preferred)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  • In a large stock pot place the bones and fill the pot with water
  • Add desired vegetables (vegetable scraps from previous cooking work great for making broth)
  • *For an added bonus, incorporate ginger or turmeric for additional healing benefits*
  • Add salt and pepper to taste
  • Bring to a rolling boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook on low for 6-8 hours.
  • Let the broth cool, then strain with a cheesecloth.
  • Refrigerate and consume within 4-5 days

**Once refrigerated, your broth will most likely be gelatinous.  This is the desired effect of bones rich with collagen!  Once you warm up your broth, it will become liquid again.
